General Information
Learn, Hands-on, The Art of Working With Fibers
Our Fiber Program started in 2000 with Susan
teaching a full schedule out of our home. Today this program has an expanded
schedule in a new weaving studio complete with four Schacht Pup Looms, several
Schacht Baby Wolf Looms, Cranbrook Countermarche Looms and a like number of Louet and Schacht Spinning Wheels.
Conover Workshops is a dealer for Schacht's extensive line of looms, spinning
wheels and equipment as well as Louet spinning wheels and fiber. For those
interested in seeing and buying these products please call for an appointment.
Taking a hands-on spinning or weaving class
before you buy equipment really pays dividends. This is especially true of
spinning for we have a large stable of wheels for you to test drive. A workshop
makes you an expert shopper because you know exactly what is right for you.
Course Registration:
For one and two day courses, total tuition is
due at time of registration. For courses that are more than two days, either a
deposit of $200 or the entire balance, whichever is smaller, is due upon
registration. The remaining balance will be due 14 days prior to the start of
your course. Click the Sign Me Up button on our calendar page and you
can sign up now through our secure server. We accept VISA and Mastercard.
Cancellation:
Thirty days or more prior to the start date,
your fee is 50% refundable. If you cancel less than thirty days from the course
beginning, the deposit/fee is non-refundable. To cancel, write or telephone and
leave a message on our answering machine. If for any reason we cancel a course,
your entire payment will promptly be refunded.
Equipment:
If you already own or have access to a treadle spinning wheel or a 4-shaft loom there is no need to rent one; however, your equipment must be in good working order. If you are unsure about the viability of your equipment you might want to bring it in for a “tune up.” This must be done at least two weeks prior to your class.
During your visit we will check you loom or wheel and explain why it may need a tune up. Most tune ups can be done on the spot for a flat rate of $25. In the event your wheel or loom needs extensive work we will give you an estimate of the cost. Should you elect to have us perform the repairs, our rate is $25 per hour plus the cost of any parts needed.
In fairness to other students extensive tuning and fixing of broken or neglected equipment has to be preformed outside class. If you arrive at the first class with cranky equipment you will lose valuable classroom time.
